ABOUT CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral Therapy or CST is a gentle, hands-on approach that works with the craniosacral system. Specifically this is, the membranes and fluid that surround and cushion the brain and spinal cord. By using extremely light touch, to tune into the subtle rhythms of your body's craniosacral system, areas of tension or restriction that are held deep within the body are released.

Craniosacral practitioners listen closely, feeling for subtle shifts in rhythm within your body and use gentle holds to encourage the body's own natural corrective mechanisms to take over. Sessions are described to be deeply calming, almost meditative.

BENEFITS OF CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

* Relieves headaches and migraines - this is one of th emost commonly cited benefits.
* Eases chronic pain - particularly neck, back and jaw pain.
* Reduces stress and anxiety - the technique of the treatment encourages the body to go into a parasympathetic rest and repair state.
* supports nervous system regulation - helpful for those dealing with chronic stress, trauma or nervous system dysregulation.
* Improves sleep - better sleep quality after sessions has been widely reported.
* Supports recovery from concussion or head injury - by releasing restrictions in the cranial bones and membranes optimum blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid flow can be restored, reducing inflammation and facilitating the brain's ability to heal.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?
This varies by individual and your treatment goals. Your practitioner can discuss this with you and give you their best recommendation. Some people feel noticeable relief after just one sessions, while chronic or long standing issues may benefit from a series of sessions spaced one to two weeks apart.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?
Nearly anyone! It is gentle enough for infants, children, pregnant clients and the elderly. It is often sought out by people managing headaches, chronic pain, anxiety, trauma or general stress.

HOW IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY DIFFERENT FROM MASSAGE?
Massage typically works more directly on the muscles and soft tissue with varying degrees o pressure. Craniosacral therapy works with the nervous system and craniosacral rhythms of the body using very light touch. Craniosacral therapy is a much subtler, more internally focused experience.

CAN CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?
Yes! Craniosacral therapy pairs especially well with massage and can be great to use in conjunction with acupuncture treatments and talk therapy. Because craniosacral therapy works on the nervous system, sessions can deepen and support the effects of other bodywork.
